Maximum is 2 months' rent (Md. Code, Real Property § 8-203). Must be returned within 45 days with itemized deductions. Interest on deposits over $50 must be paid annually.
Maryland requires a written 1-month notice to terminate a month-to-month tenancy. For nonpayment, the landlord can file immediately after rent is due without a separate notice.
Montgomery County, Prince George's County, and Takoma Park have rent stabilization ordinances. No statewide rent control.
